Last night I submitted a ten-page bit to our writing critique group. Got smacked. Not mean smacking, but the reality that I missed the mark on communicating my thoughts, story, characters from my mind to the page. I submitted the opening pages of Daniel book five. Because it is a series, a continuation of previous books, I tried to weave some backstory in the give a reader some context of events before, and aspects of relationships. What I discovered...I failed miserably, cre

I greatly appreciate all who are taking time to read the Blog posts and book chapters on my webpage. It's a comfort that you find them worth reading. Something I noticed just today is at the end of the blog posts, there's a place to leave comments. Anything you have to say, good, bad, or the color of the bananas at the store will be appreciated. Thank you for your consideration. Walter

Core Beliefs - Chapter 55 - New Recruits
Core Beliefs – Chapter 55 - New Recruits Monday, February 2nd, Matt flew to Washington, DC, for a meeting with Senator Saulman Coldwell. He took a cab to the Senate office building and, with some difficulty, located the senator’s office. The receptionist greeted him brightly and led him to the senator’s office. She said the senator was on his way back from a meeting, and it would only be a few minutes. Matt settled into a comfortable chair. He knew exactly what he wanted to

Juggling!!!#$**&&)))
When you're a writer, nothing moves in a straight line. You are thumped with a second of inspiration, and you give chase. I've been working on book five of the Daniel Saga for years.... I'm nearing the end, almost dreading because I know book six is going to be harder to write! Here is the start of book five: Walter Golding 59,054 words...thus far, not all in this post. Core Beliefs - Chapter 54 - Water from Nowhere.
Core Beliefs – Chapter 54 - Water from Nowhere At 7:00 a.m., Matt’s phone rang. He recognized the ringtone even before he checked the caller ID, answering quickly. “Hello, Dr. Morgan, this is Matthew Lehman.” “Hello, Mr. Lehman. I received the gifts and your instructions just today. This is our first opportunity to call. How is our little girl?” “Charlie’s fine. It was a thrill meeting her,” Matt said. “She is a very special young lady.” “Mr. Lehman.” “Call me Matt. Ple

Something that I have encountered before has once more affected my work.
Reading can corrupt your writing. Lately I've been reading, some new, some revisits, some instructional. I get deep pleasure when reading, but I've found the plots, scenes, the characters of others can contaminate the ones I'm in the middle of creating. Too often I find a phrase or description of another author ink blotted in the middle of my words. I set Tolkien down, the rich imagery, clean script, the marvelously conceived plots, Tolkien's brilliance a joyous pleasure, but

Core beliefs - Chapter 53 - A Charlie Christmas
Core Beliefs – Chapter 53 - A Charlie Christmas (Not a Misspelling) Charley couldn’t pull himself away from the silo. The continuous research and an intoxicating pace of discovery kept his days occupied, and the task of designing a colony on an island far away, handed to him by his Uncle Matt, ate up most of his nights. In all his life he’d never felt so challenged and yet fulfilled. His life was beyond happy…except for one missing piece. Charlotte insisted he stay at Armo

Core Beliefs - Chapter 52 - The First Counsil of Dlrow Wen
Core Beliefs – Chapter 52 - The First Council of Dlrow Wen When Ellie and Doug left on their honeymoon, Charley Lehman also disappeared. On a very cold day in early November, Joe and Cynthia drove to the Kansas City airport and waited in the terminal, watching with anticipation. Passenger after passenger walked by, but not Charley. Finally, a young man with a deep tan, sun bleach hair, a scruffy beard, wearing a ragged sweatshirt and ratty blue jeans, angled their way. His
